This is the second bar of Kind Plus that i’ve sampled and I must say that I do not like this one. Can something possibly be too nutty? Don’t get me wrong, I love nuts. This bar however is just NUT OVERLOAD.

The ‘plus’ element of this bar is Protien which i do not think is a good fit for this amount flavor combo because these type of nuts have tons of protien in them already. I would rather have seen some acai berrys or something to break up the nuttyness. I also should point out that the macadamia nuts are large and nearly whole which take up a large portion of the bar’s comosition.

Overall, I would not buy this one again. I enjoyed the Almond & Cashew one much better. Come back tomorrow to see how the last sample holds up.

This morning I tested the first item from our NY Fancy Food Show Bounty, the “Kind Plus” – Almond & Cashew flavor.
From kindsnacks.com …

“Almond & Cashew is delicious, all-natural, gluten-free and dairy-free. This healthy snack bar is a rich source of fiber, low in sodium, and contains no trans fat.”

The “Plus” part of the equation means the it has a bonus nutrtional elemant added to it. The Almond & Cashew has Omega-3 fatty acids as it’s plus ingredient.

“Almond & Cashew is the perfect choice for health-conscious nut lovers. This KIND bar is enhanced with flaxseed that provides the ALA form of Omega-3’s, which then converts in the body to EPA and DHA forms of Omega-3.”

The flavor of this bar is VERY good. It tasted lightly sweet and very nutty. Sometimes nutty granola or snack bars can be dry and brittle, but this Kind bar was soft and very moist without being overly sugary. You can really taste the natural ingredients and it certainly tastes as good as those fatty and high calorie candy bars.

This flavor has the lowest carb count of their entire line. It only has 11g of carbs which makes this a great option for Type 1 Diabetics and health junkies.

Overall, I would recommend eating these in the morning if you are on the go or on the way to work. It would also work as an afternoon snack to help beat that 3:00pm slump. I would recommend this product to friends and family and I plan on buying a box to keep in the house.

Most products have samples available and some were even nice enought to let us bring their product home and give us some time to do a review. We plan on sampling some of everything we got and give a roundup of our favorites and small review of each product.

Here is a group shot of our take home samples.

This guy came up with a great top 10 for saving some money when you cook alot.

Danksters listen up, because you will need to know this stuff:

1. Buy produce in season. If you want tomatoes in December, you’re going to have to pay. But if you buy them in August, you can get them cheap. (Better yet, grow your own!) If you’re not sure what’s in season, check out this Food Network produce guide.

2. Purchase dry spices and herbs whole. Buying a big bottle of your favorite herb might sound like a good idea, but it’s not good quality to begin with, and will only get worse with time. In fact, you’ll likely have to throw most of it out when you haven’t used it after a year. Buy as fresh as you can and in small amounts.

3. Get dry milk for use in recipes. I’ve never tried this one. We used powdered milk for everything when I was growing up, and I have an aversion to it. But apparently it can be a good choice for kitchen work.

4. Buy real cheese. Real cheese beats the processed stuff for taste and quality every time. Buy what’s on sale, and buy in bulk. The article suggests planning a meal around whichever cheese you can get a deal on. I find most cheeses keep well if stored properly.

5. Seek tough cuts of meat. If you can do without meat, you’ll save money and have a healthier diet. But if, like me, you crave beef, then learn to use the tough cuts. The art of slow-cooking is a fun one to master.

6. Buy straight from local farmers. Seek out produce stands and farmers markets in your area. Prices aren’t always better than in the store, but they’re rarely higher. And the quality cannot be beat. (So, at worst you’re paying the same but getting much better food.) I find that farmers markets also offer a variety of foods that supermarkets never carry.

7. Shop Latin markets and Korean grocers. This is a great tip. Portland has some great Asian markets, and they offer great deals on spices, produce, and exotic ingredients. You don’t need to make weekly trips to ethnic markets (unless you have one close), but a visit now and then will help you spice up your meals for cheap!

8. Don’t bother with all-inclusive sets. Sets of pots and pans are rarely a bargain. Neither are knife sets. You get a lot of stuff you don’t need, and you sacrifice quality. Buy only what you need, and pay for reasonable quality. (One of my favorite recent purchases is a professional-quality chef’s knife — my wife laughs at how eager I am to dice onions now.)

9. Opt for versatility. Don’t buy specialized implements. Kitchen gadgets are tempting, but if you’re trying to save money, they’re a poor choice. That garlic press will sit unused most of the time, but a good knife can be used for mincing and for hundreds of other kitchen tasks. Buy items that can be used for many purposes.

10. Slow means cheaper. Have you cooked a pot roast lately? Do you know how cheap they are to make? Do you know how good they taste? A slow-cooker can help you make all sorts of cheap meals.

Don’t forget that there are other ways to save in the kitchen, too. Learning to use coupons effectively can help cut costs. It’s also a good idea to stock up on staples when they’re on sale. Learning to cook your own meals can be a delicious and fun way to save money.

Big news in the dankster meta verse today! In an interview over at the Gamertag Radio podcast, it was announced that Dan the Automator will be producing the soundtrack for the newest installment of NBA 2k7 from 2k sports. If you are not familiar with Automator, you should be ashamed of yourself, but hes mostly known for producing the amazing Deltron 3030 album, the Gorillaz debut album. This will be Automator's first project since the last Handsome Boy Modeling School Album.

Some of the artists that are going to be included in the soundtrack will be Mos Def, The Roots, and a reunion of A Tribe Called Quest, who will be going on their first tour in 6 years.

We cant wait to get a copy of the game over here at Dankster HQ to pump it on our xbox360.

Last night Dankster swung by LES standard Pianos to check out Tokyo Police Club, a band that hails all the way from the indie tundras of Canada. The young quartet put on an energetic show that consisted of much waiving of flags and signs.

The music was good (think the Strokes with lead synth instead of guitar), and made good use of empty spaces. Although some of the songs tended to blend into each other after a while, you could definitely see that there's some real potential there.

We'll be looking forward to some future releases from these guys.

In reality, cannabis has been with humanity for thousands of years and is considered by many governments (notably America's) to be a dangerous drug without utility. Any suggestion that the plant might be medically useful is politically controversial, whatever the science says.
